I have gotten this exact text more than once after sharing BESTIES with my circle of friends and their friends.
When I get this text, I already know what she means. She took the smallest amount of BESTIES, our baby, called JOB INTERVIEW - 2mg per premium pressed oral tablet - expecting a little lift, a little focus, something subtle but productive . Instead, she fell asleep. Not kind of tired, not “I could lie down,” but fully out in the middle of the day, deep, actually restorative sleep.
The tone of her text never panicked. It’s confusion. Like, wait… was that supposed to happen?
I always write back the same thing. You didn’t do anything wrong. If anything, your body just ratted you out.
Because here’s what I had to learn. A lot of the women I’m giving this to are running hot all the time. High functioning, high stress, holding it together so well that even we don’t realize how activated our systems are. That becomes the baseline. ¡No bueno, chicas! There’s real research behind this. Chronic stress keeps the nervous system in a prolonged “on” state, often driven by elevated cortisol, and over time, that makes it harder for the body to fully rest and recover. Does this sound familiar? The American Psychological Association has a good overview of how ongoing stress impacts sleep and recovery.
So when something comes in that supports regulation, your system doesn’t always choose focus. Sometimes it chooses rest. Like, immediately. There’s also research showing the body doesn’t always ease into recovery. When the nervous system finally shifts into a parasympathetic state, the one responsible for rest and repair, it can happen quickly, which is why the response can feel so sudden.
You see a version of this in research as well. One large observational study published in Scientific Reports found improvements in mood and stress over about 30 days. But that’s over time. What doesn’t get talked about enough is the beginning, especially if your starting point is depleted. The first shift isn’t always energy. It’s recovery.
For someone relatively balanced, a small amount might feel like clarity or focus. For someone running on fumes, that same amount might feel like their body finally got permission to shut down and reset. If your nervous system has been waiting for a moment to repair, it’s not going to negotiate with your calendar. It’s going to take it.
Now, the next question I always get is, “I don’t have time to nap. What am I supposed to do with that?” Fair. That strong “I need to sleep” response is usually most noticeable at the beginning. As things regulate, it tends to shift. Less full shutdown, more steady, manageable energy. You can also adjust timing, later in the day or on a lower-stakes day, just to see how your body responds without pressure.
It’s not about forcing a nap. It’s about recognizing that your body may be taking the first real opportunity it’s had to recover.
So now when I get those texts, I don’t see “I did this wrong.” I see, “Oh. That’s how much your body needed that.” And over time, it evens out. Less accidental nap, more steady, grounded energy. But that first reset can be very real. It’s your body saying, “Girl, rest.”
So if you took a small amount and ended up asleep on your couch at 2 pm, slightly confused about how you got there, you didn’t do it wrong. You probably just needed a reset more than you realized.
